Our goal was to transform the unfinished areas into a guest bedroom, bathroom, and utility room. Bright Ideas devised a floor plan that minimized changes to the finished space, maximized the new rooms, and worked around existing utilities. We hid the sump pump in the closet, and relocated the oil tank outside to create space in the bedroom to-be. The laundry and utilities were consolidated in another area so a bathroom could be constructed.
In addition to space planning, we assisted the O'Deas in selecting the bathroom finishes and designed a tile pattern for the shower walls.
This hands-on duo constructed their new rooms while working with DIYourself Consulting, a firm that helps homeowners plan and carry out their do-it-yourself projects. The renovation included several challenging projects -- from tiling the bathroom to installing an egress window. That window project involved cutting through the interior and exterior walls with a saw so large and dangerous that the instruction given by the rental company was "don't cut off your head". The couple toiled away for a year to complete their renovation and are thrilled with the results. Their frequent guests are also enjoying the new 5-star accommodations.
